There are two types of conduits discovered, so far, in the galaxy.

The first is Short Haul Conduits. These seem to connect each adjacent system to each other in a simple network. Matter moves much faster through a Short Haul than it ever could in Plain Space.

The second is Long Haul Conduits. These are rare connections with very distant Clusters, Nebulas, or super-large systems. Only a dozen Long Haul conduits have every been discovered. Matter moves much faster through a Long Haul than even Short Haul.

Short Haul Conduits

Duration in Days = ((Distance in Light years x 10 ) / FTL die-type)

For example, the duration of a flight from the Sol system (Earth’s system) to Alpha Centauri on a bulk trader with FTL d4 = ((4.2ly x 10) / 4) = 6.7 days.

The same journey on a sports yacht with FTL d10 = ((4.2ly x 10) / 10) = 4.2 days.

Long Haul Conduits

Duration in Days = ((Distance in Light years / 100 ) / FTL die-type)

For example, the duration of a flight from the Sol Proxima to the Orion Nebula on a bulk trader with FTL d4 = ((1000ly / 100) / 4) = 2.5 days.

The same journey on a sports yacht with FTL d10 = ((1000ly / 100) / 10) = 1 days.

Ship Speed

Travel within a Conduit is achieved by a ship attaching to the Flow through an FTL jumpdrive. Jumpdrives are unique singularities that can attract bubbles of the Dark Matter to surround and carry the ship and the space directly around it. These bubbles float along the conduit at FTL speeds.

How fast a ship can travel within a Flow depends on your Ship’s Hyperdrive. Ships without Hyperdrive engines can still travel the Flows, they just drift at a D4 speed. Most frigates are of this class as it is expensive (in Liquid Thrust Anatine Fuel) to push large ships beyond the D4 speed.

Small ships, however, can be outfitted with Hyperdrives. The stronger the engine, the faster the ship can travel the Flow beyond its default current speed.
